Unless you live under a rock, you have heard of Playboy. Their founder, the one and only Hugh Hefner, has worked hard to place his brand firmly in the minds of consumers everywhere. Playboy has come to stand for “gentlemen’s” fun with a classy touch. Since its inception in the 1950’s Playboy has grown from a small little organization to a global powerhouse that has its fingers in nearly every pie out there. Now they have set their sites on a new horizon, an internet casino. Now we have to decide if this newest Hef creation has the sexy chic feel that we have come to expect from the Playboy name, or is it just another dive bar?
As soon as you arrive at the Playboy Casino you are greeted with the claim that they are the one and only “web’s sexiest casino.” While we would expect nothing less from Playboy we will have to reserve judgement on that claim. Our first question is just how will this play to the very large population of female casino gamers? It would seem that an over the top sex appeal would be more of a turn off to them than any kind of enticement. We flipped through the pages to see just how risqué the site actual was, and in the end found nothing to worry about. You do have the, clothed, Bunny welcoming you to the hall, but that’s about it. It fact we thought that the overall effect was more bland and boring than exciting and fun. Navigation is not a problem and players will find it very simple to learn their way around in no time at all.
We were starting to feel a little too much at home here and couldn’t figure out why. The reason turned out to be very simple, although one that we weren’t expecting. As it turns out the Playboy online casino is actually owned and operated by none other than our very own Ladbrokes. This is great in the fact that it definitely lays to rest any lingering concerns that you might have had about security. It also means that the games here are delivered in the same high quality downloading format that you will find at the main Ladbrokes site. Both sites use the Microgaming Viper software to power their fun. If you have been to Ladbrokes then you will notice that the floor at Playboy is not as crowded as at their own site, but it still offers a solid 95 games. The only problem we had with the whole set up is that maybe everything was just too much like being in the regular Ladbrokes hall. Other than a few rabbit logos pasted throughout the games there was nothing original to be found. It just seems as though there is a lot more that you could do with the Playboy brand then just post their logo.
Those of you who are running Mac systems don’t need to get your hopes up when you see that the site does offer a section of Instant Play games. In their help section, Playboy claims that their site is accessible to Mac users as long as they are running one of the newer operating systems. We have the hottest one on the market and still couldn’t get anything to work. The only real bonus to having Instant Play on the site is that it allows you to access the fun no matter where you’re at. This is great for players who don’t always find themselves sitting in front of the same computer day in and day out.
At this point we were on a mission to find out what exactly separated Playboy from their parent site of Ladbrokes. The first thing that we found didn’t make us very happy. You see, there is no free phone support available for customers in the UK. This is something that we always find irritating, but it is especially so in this case because free phone is an option at the regular Ladbrokes site. We would like to point out that e-mail is available at both casinos so players always have that option open to them. The next thing that we found was a solid mark in Playboy’s favour. They offer a new player welcome bonus that was double that which we found at Ladbrokes. And there are additional incentives if your first deposit is on the large side. The more time that we spent poking around the Playboy casino it seems as though the biggest difference here is that Playboy is going after the high rollers while Ladbrokes encourages all players. A fun little perk is that when you do set up your account at the Playboy Casino they mail you your very own copy of “Playboy: The Mansion.” Ours hasn’t arrived yet, but we think it will be a blast to build our own mansion.
Playboy’s claim of being the “web’s sexiest casino” must refer more to their games rather than their decor. We admit that the games are wonderful; they are just like the ones at Ladbrokes so why wouldn’t they be? We would just like to see more. This is a company and a brand that is known for being over the top, and that is what makes them fun and different from everything else out there. Ladbrokes could do an awful lot with this site without ever making it offensive to anyone. It seems as though they have a great base in place, we just want to see them do more with it.
